Apple offers two levels of coverage. Know what's included before you need a repair.
For iPhones, Apple also offers AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, which adds coverage for stolen or lost devices (requires Find My iPhone to be enabled at time of incident). This plan is slightly more expensive but provides the most comprehensive protection available.

Yes. Apple's Limited Warranty and AppleCare+ coverage transfer with the device when you sell or give it away. The new owner can check coverage at checkcoverage.apple.com. AppleCare+ can also be formally transferred to the new owner via Apple's process.
Yes, you can add AppleCare+ within 60 days of purchasing your Apple device. After 60 days, you cannot add it unless you bring your device to an Apple Store for inspection. This window applies to iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
The following can void your Apple warranty: unauthorized modifications, jailbreaking (for some claims), use of non-Apple parts for self-repair (in some regions), damage from unauthorized service centers, and use outside Apple's environmental specifications. Accidental damage by itself doesn't void the warranty but isn't covered by the standard warranty (it is covered by AppleCare+).
